Single-family house MGRL Project
Rehabilitation of a single-family house in the province of Barcelona
The privileged location of the house, not far from the city of Barcelona: a wild plot of land with views of the sea and the remains of a Mediterranean pine forest. On the other hand, the well-preserved structure of the pre-existing building, also spatial, even with the constructive limitations of its time.
It was decided to confront the pre-existing construction as a territory from which a new, abstract order was applied, leaning over the previous functional nodes. In other words, a polite way of explaining the conservation of most of its previous nodes of structure and installation.
The new cubicles are both the extension of the interior functional programme and viewpoints, either to the surrounding landscape or to the pre-existing interior.
As a functional extension of the interior, the cubes reveal the conditions of the new use, the bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen or simply the living space.
These new framed rooms are characterised by their status as intermediate spaces. They are built with a new material, which makes them stand out against the white plaster of the existing construction. In a way, the potentiality expressed by the new cubes, the gazes framed by the new elements were already there. The sea was there. The unique pine trees were there. The garden and the swimming pool were there.
